About Installation of Lapack

Postby JFHsu » Mon Dec 05, 2005 11:38 pm

Hi,
I am a very green hand of LINUX. My system is Mandriva 2005. And I was trying to install Lapack in my computer. But it alway shows the error:

ar: sgbbrd.o:No such file or directory
make[1]:***[single] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/hoyi/LAPACK/SRC'
make: *** [lapacklib] Error 2

Is that because that I didn't edit my Makefile and makeinc?
If so, how should I edit my Makefile and make.inc?

Thank very much for help!

Hello,
you did not get any error message before that one?

sgbbrd.f is the first file that the LAPACK's makefile tries to compile
(after make install) so basically you have managed to do nothing.

if you are under a Linux system, you should change the make.inc
you can take one from the INSTALL directory:

cd LAPACK
cp INSTALL/make.inc.LINUX make.inc

Although do not forget to apply the patch form http://www.netlib.org/lapack-dev/
This should give something like

cd LAPACK
wget http://www.netlib.org/lapack-dev/lapack ... 042002.tgz
gzip -d lapack--3.0--patch--10042002.tgz
tar xvf lapack--3.0--patch--10042002.tar
rm -f lapack--3.0--patch--10042002.tar
cp INSTALL/make.inc.LINUX make.inc
make blaslib install lib testing
