ScaLapack Installation on Ubuntu

Postby bachcs » Tue Oct 23, 2012 3:07 am

Hello all,

I'm planning to install ScaLapack + MPI on Ubuntu 12.10. I found scalapack-mpi-test, scalapack-doc, scalapack-test-common via Ubuntu Software Center and I installed them. My concern: is that a correct way to install ScaLapack? How do I know if it's correct (e.g. where is the library located)?

Thank you!

Yes I think the Ubuntu people are doing a serious job integrating ScaLAPACK.
Just check the Scalapack version against the current release (2.0.2) ) - anything above 2.0 is a good choice

Dear Julie,

Unfortunately, its version is scalapack-mpi-test 1.8.0-9. I found it was installed in /usr/lib/scalapack.
But ScaLAPACK Installer for Linux works well with a minor change. Starting with no blas+lapack installed and using open MPI:
./setup.py --prefix=/home/bachcs/scalapack --mpiincdir=/usr/lib/openmpi/include --downblas --downlapack

It compiles and generates reference BLAS successfully, but fails with LAPACK, because the script needs lapack-3.4.1 directory, which is not found. The new downloaded lapack directory is lapack-3.4.2, so I just change it back to lapack-3.4.1, and it works. So you may need to consider it in the next update of ScaLAPACK Installer.

Thanks,

Bach
