PAPI not working on Intel i7 4770

I'm trying to install PAPI 5.2.0 on CentOS 6.5 (kernel 2.6.32, x86_64) at an Intel i7 4770 processor.
The installation runs fine, but when I run "papi_avail" I get that no hardware events are available (see output below).
What could be wrong? Any help is welcome.
