CAN I run plasma using source code?

Dear all,

I am successfully executing my programs using installer. Now I need to change the tile size and build the libraries again. When I downloaded the source code (instead of installer) and did "make" it did not work. How to do it? What is the best way to make changes in source code and then compile it to make library?
